Pink Pearl Primary Care uses Integrative- Functional principles to enhance overall well-being and to achieve optimal health and healing.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a subdivision of Integrative Medicine. The Functional Medicine Tree illustrates how signs and symptoms come from multiple underlying causes.  Our genetic predisposition, lifestyle, experiences, attitudes, and beliefs all contribute to the physiology of clinical imbalances which manifest as symptoms. The traditional medical approach divides signs and symptoms into separate organ systems and separate diagnoses (as illustrated in the branches of the tree). While this model can be very effective in the short term it often results in development of chronic illness. Functional medicine dives deeper into finding the root-cause of signs and symptoms to avoid developing disease or to aide in reduction of already existing disease by correcting fundamental imbalances and correcting function on the cellular level so that the body may repair or heal itself more naturally.

What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine includes using the conventional or traditional medical model, as well as recommending alternative testing and therapies such as yoga, acupuncture, aromatherapy, herbs, supplements, massage therapy, and mind-body therapies. Because Functional Medicine is classified as a subdivision of Integrative Medicine, they both seek to understand the underlying cause of symptoms or diseases and focuses on the person as a whole- considering mind, body and spirit. Functional and Integrative Health both use an scientific evidence-based approach to improve your health and wellness.

The Integrative- Functional Experience

Emely will listen to your story and health journey. She will merge your previous medical history and current health status with the knowledge gained through traditional and functional testing. She will work with you to create a wellness plan that is sustainable to reach your health goals. Each patient is treated individually and separately from the standard medical model of sickcare.

Your initial appointment will focus on your current complaints and a full history including diet, exercise, sleep, stressors, social connections, and spiritual practices.  We will discuss your goals and expectations for treatment. Timeline for treatment will depend on individual needs, the number and frequency of appointments, testing and recommendations are depending on findings and health care needs.

Positive changes in health may happen quickly within weeks but can take approximately 3-4 months for notable improvements. Emely uses your specialized test results to determine the changes that support optimal function and health.  Integrative- Functional health may be right for you if you are ready and willing to make sustainable changes in modifiable lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, stressors, nutrition, and sleep.
